VMI success story: Betsy with mentee Jonina Lynn Kirton at Mayor’s Arts Awards 2016

Friends, Readers, Writers:

Soon–January’s only six weeks away–’twill be the season for resolutions. Have you made yours? Knowing your type (readers & writers!) one of them probably involves completing that manuscript that’s accruing pages but losing momentum. Or maybe you have an idea for a manuscript, some notes, and a few pieces of writing, but no direction?

Betsy Warland invites you to apply to Vancouver Manuscript Intensive, a six-month program she created to match emerging writers with mentors who take a holistic approach to your manuscript from the very beginning, helping you find and stay focused on a cohesive through-line.

The next session is in January, so if you apply now, you’ll be set up to start working on those writing-related resolutions as soon as the new year begins.

The deadline is only a few days away–November 21st. Whether you write poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction or work in mixed genres, VMI has a mentor for you.

Evelyn Lau, Cathleen With, Karen Tulchinsky, Shaena Lambert, Betsy Warland, Rachel Rose, Jane Silcott or Caludia Casper are VMI faculty. Betsy will find the best match for you. You can read about each one of them on the VMI website. You’ll be impressed! Their bios include poet laureate-ships and many awards.

So get a head start on those resolutions for 2017:  the application form is available right here!

Your application should include, where possible:

  • a twenty-page writing sample;
  • a short description of your manuscript or body of work
  • a resume

Tuition is $2,500 + GST

For more information about the application process, check out the “Apply” section of the VMI website.

Betsy looks forward to hearing from you.
